⚡ Quick Answer — How to Get Your Janam Kundli as a PDF

Updated: October 2026 | Read Time: 11 minutes
To make a janam kundli online as a PDF, enter your date of birth, exact birth time (with AM/PM) and birth town into a Vedic kundli generator set to Lahiri ayanamsa, then download or print the result. Before you trust it, check three things: the town's coordinates, the Moon's nakshatra, and the Lagna. A wrong input gives a confident but wrong chart.

What a Janam Kundli Records
A janam kundli is a map of the sky at the moment and place you were born. It shows which sign was rising on the eastern horizon (the Lagna), where the nine grahas sat across the twelve signs, and which nakshatra the Moon occupied. Everything an astrologer later says about career, marriage or timing is read off this map, so the map has to be right first.
People usually ask for it as a PDF for practical reasons. A family wants to send it to the other side before a marriage talk, someone wants a copy for a puja, or a parent wants a record for a newborn. That is a reasonable use. The PDF itself is only a calculation, though. It does not interpret anything, and a calculation is only as good as the details typed into it.
This article is about producing that calculation correctly and checking it. If you already have a chart and want to understand it, start with our guide on how to read your own kundli instead.
The Three Inputs, and Which One Breaks Charts
Every kundli generator asks for the same three things: date, time and place of birth. Your name is optional and changes nothing in the calculation. It only appears on the printout.
The three inputs do not carry equal weight. Here is roughly how much each one can move if it is wrong:
| Input | If it is off by… | What changes in the chart |
|---|---|---|
| Birth date | One day | The Moon moves about 13°, so the nakshatra almost always changes and the Moon sign may too. The whole dasha sequence shifts. |
| Birth time | 15–30 minutes | The Lagna can change sign, which renumbers all twelve houses. Divisional charts like the Navamsa change faster still. |
| Birth time | 12 hours (AM/PM swap) | A completely different Lagna and house layout. One of the most common errors. |
| Birth place | A nearby town | Usually small. A few minutes of difference in the Lagna degree. |
| Birth place | Wrong town with the same name | Can be large if the other town is in a different state or country. |
The rising sign changes on average about every two hours, though some signs rise faster than others depending on latitude. If you were born near the edge of one, even a small time error puts you in the next sign. That is why the birth time deserves more effort than the other two.
Finding Your Real Birth Time
Most people know their birth time from a parent's memory, and memory rounds. "Around 7 in the morning" might mean 6:40 or 7:25. Look for a written record before relying on that. In rough order of reliability:
- Hospital discharge papers or delivery records. These are written at the time by staff, usually to the minute.
- Your birth certificate. Many municipal certificates in India include the time; older ones often do not.
- A kundli made by a family priest at your birth. These often record the time in ghati-pal or local time. Ask an astrologer to convert it rather than guessing.
- A parent's diary, a baby book or a letter written that week.
If none of these exist, say so to whoever reads your chart. An astrologer can work backwards from dated life events, such as a marriage, a parent's passing or a job change, to narrow down the likely time. This is called birth time rectification. It takes work and is never certain, but it is better than reading a chart built on a guess.
Birth Place, Coordinates and Time Zone
The generator converts your birth town into latitude, longitude and a time zone. Choose the town where you were physically born, not where your family lived. If you were born in a Jaipur hospital and grew up in Udaipur, enter Jaipur.
Two things go wrong here. First, many Indian town names repeat across states, so pick the entry that shows the right district and state. Second, older births may involve a time zone the software has to correct for. India did not always run on a single clock; some periods before Independence used local city time, and wartime clock changes also occurred. Good software handles this when you give it the correct town and date. Cheap tools sometimes assume today's IST for every year. If you were born before 1950, ask whether the tool applies historical time zones.
For births outside India, the same applies to daylight saving. Enter the clock time written on your record and let the software apply the offset. Do not subtract an hour yourself, or it will be subtracted twice.
How to Make Your Kundli Online, Step by Step
This is the process for janam kundli kaise banaye on any reasonable generator, including the free kundali generator on our home page:
- Write down your date, time and place from the most reliable record you have.
- Enter the date in the format the tool asks for. Check whether it wants DD/MM or MM/DD; a birth on 4 July and one on 7 April look identical in the wrong format.
- Enter the time. Use the 24-hour clock if offered, or double-check the AM/PM selector.
- Type the birth town and choose the right entry from the dropdown. Look at the state and district shown.
- Check the settings (next section) before you submit.
- Generate the chart. Use the download or print option and choose "Save as PDF" if no direct PDF button exists.
- Run the five checks further down before you share it.
The Settings Most People Never Look At
Some generators hide a settings panel. Two settings matter.
Ayanamsa. Vedic astrology measures the zodiac against the fixed stars, and the ayanamsa is the correction between that and the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology. Lahiri (also called Chitrapaksha) is the standard in India and is what most Indian astrologers expect. Other ayanamsas such as Raman or KP move planets by a degree or so, which is enough to change a nakshatra pada or a divisional chart. If the PDF does not say which ayanamsa it used, find out.
House system. Traditional Vedic charts use whole-sign houses, where the rising sign is the first house in full. Some tools default to other systems (Placidus, Sripati/Bhava chalit). A chalit chart is useful, but the main rashi chart should be whole-sign so that it matches what an astrologer will look at.
North, South or East Indian Chart
The same chart can be drawn three ways, and families often think two PDFs disagree when they only differ in style.
- North Indian (diamond): the houses stay fixed in place and the sign numbers move. The top central diamond is always the first house. Common in Rajasthan, UP, MP, Delhi and Gujarat.
- South Indian (square grid): the signs stay fixed in place and the Lagna is marked with a line or "Asc". Common in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra.
- East Indian: also fixed signs, used mainly in Bengal and Odisha.
Pick the style your family or astrologer reads. To compare two charts in different styles, compare the planets by sign, not by where they sit on the drawing.
What a Free Kundli PDF Usually Contains
A typical free janam kundli PDF includes:
- The Lagna (birth) chart and the Moon (Chandra) chart
- The Navamsa (D-9) chart, sometimes more divisional charts
- A planet table with sign, degree, nakshatra and pada for each graha
- Avakahada details: Moon sign, nakshatra, varna, yoni, gana, nadi (the same factors used in kundli milan)
- The Vimshottari dasha list with start and end dates
- Sometimes a few pages of auto-generated text on personality, career and doshas
The tables are the valuable part. The auto-generated text is assembled from fixed paragraphs for each placement and is not a reading. Our comparison of free and paid kundli analysis explains why those paragraphs so often contradict each other.
Five Checks Before You Trust the PDF
Most wrong kundlis come from small input mistakes. These checks catch nearly all of them in a few minutes.
- Read the input block printed on the PDF. Date, time, AM/PM, place, latitude, longitude and time zone should all be there. Compare each to your record.
- Check the coordinates. Look up your birth town's latitude and longitude separately. They should match within a few minutes of arc.
- Check the Moon's nakshatra against your naam rashi. If your family priest named you by nakshatra (for example, a name starting with "Ch" for Revati), the PDF's Moon nakshatra should agree. If it does not, the date or time is likely wrong.
- Check the sunrise relationship. If you were born around sunrise, the Sun should be in or beside the Lagna sign (the first, second or twelfth house). Born around noon, it should be near the tenth house; around midnight, near the fourth. A Sun far from where it should be points to an AM/PM error.
- Compare with a second generator. Two tools using Lahiri and the same inputs should give the same Lagna, the same nakshatras and dasha dates within a few days. A larger gap means one setting differs.
Getting the Kundli in Hindi
Many people search for janam kundli in hindi because their family reads Hindi, or because the pandit doing the marriage or puja expects it. Most Indian generators, including ours, offer a language switch before you download. The calculation does not change with the language; only the labels do. Planet names appear as Surya, Chandra, Mangal and so on, and signs as Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun.
If you want to learn to read the chart in Hindi, our Hindi guide kundli kaise padhein walks through the North Indian chart step by step in Hindi.
Kundli Apps and "Online Readers"
A janam kundli app is a generator with a nicer screen. The calculation engines in reputable apps are usually accurate, because the astronomy is well established. Where apps differ is in the defaults: ayanamsa, chart style, house system and how they handle old time zones. Check those once and the app becomes a convenient place to keep your chart.
A "janam kundli reader online" is a different claim. Some apps attach automated interpretations or chatbots. These cannot see which factors outweigh others in your chart, so treat them as a glossary rather than a reading. They also cannot fix a wrong birth time, which no software can detect on its own.
You Have the PDF. Now What?
A correct chart opens three sensible paths.
If you are curious and want to learn, read up on the twelve houses of the kundli and then your dasha timeline in how mahadasha works. The dasha list in your PDF tells you which planet's period you are in now, which frames everything else.
If you have a real decision in front of you, such as a career change, a marriage proposal or a move abroad, the PDF alone will not answer it. A personal kundali analysis reads the chart as a whole, including divisional charts, dasha and current transits, and gives you reasons rather than stock paragraphs.
If the PDF is for a marriage match, both charts need to be generated with the same settings before they are compared. Gun milan points are only one part of a proper kundli milan.
A word on limits. No kundli, free or paid, can promise a marriage, a job or a cure. It describes tendencies and timing. Health questions belong with a doctor first, whatever the chart shows.

Have Your Kundli Read Properly
A generated PDF tells you where the planets were. A reading tells you what that means for the question you actually have. If you would like your chart read by a person who checks the birth details first, these are the options:
- Personal Kundali Analysis — your full chart, dasha and transits, read and explained
- Written kundli report — a detailed reference document emailed to you

[ {"question":"How can I get my janam kundli online as a PDF?","answer":"Enter your date of birth, exact birth time with AM/PM, and birth town into a Vedic kundli generator set to Lahiri ayanamsa. Generate the chart, then use the download button or print it and choose Save as PDF. Before sharing it, check that the date, time, coordinates and time zone printed on the PDF match your records."}, {"question":"Janam kundli kaise banaye if I do not know my birth time?","answer":"First look for a written record: hospital papers, a birth certificate that includes the time, or a kundli made by a family priest at birth. If nothing exists, a Moon chart can still be made from the date and place, because the Moon sign rarely changes within a day. For the Lagna and houses, an astrologer can attempt birth time rectification using dated life events, though the result is an estimate, not a certainty."}, {"question":"Why do two kundli websites show different charts for me?","answer":"Usually because of a setting, not an error in the astronomy. The most common causes are a different ayanamsa (Lahiri versus Raman or KP), a different chart style (North versus South Indian), a different house system, an AM/PM mix-up, or a wrong town picked from the dropdown. With the same inputs and Lahiri ayanamsa, two good generators should agree on the Lagna and nakshatras."}, {"question":"Is a free janam kundli accurate?","answer":"The calculation in a reputable free generator is usually accurate if the inputs are right. What free tools cannot do is interpret the chart well. Their written sections are built from fixed paragraphs for each placement, which often contradict each other. Use the free PDF for its tables and charts, not for its predictions."}, {"question":"Can I get my janam kundli in Hindi?","answer":"Yes. Most Indian generators, including the one on our site, let you choose Hindi before downloading. Only the labels change; the positions of the planets are identical. Planets appear as Surya, Chandra, Mangal and so on, and signs as Mesh, Vrishabh, Mithun."}, {"question":"Which birth place should I enter, where I was born or where I grew up?","answer":"Enter the town where you were physically born, such as the hospital's city, even if your family lived elsewhere. The chart depends on the latitude and longitude of the birth itself. If several towns share the name, choose the entry with the correct district and state."}, {"question":"Can a janam kundli predict my marriage date or guarantee results?","answer":"No. A kundli describes tendencies and favourable or difficult periods through the dasha system and transits. It cannot guarantee a marriage, a job, wealth or a cure, and nobody honest will claim it can. For any health concern, see a doctor first; astrological guidance can sit alongside medical care, never in place of it."} ]Ready for expert guidance?
