⚡ Quick Answer — Nidhi Shrimali
To find a Vastu consultant in Bikaner, you have two routes: a local practitioner who visits the site, or an online consultation done from your floor plan, compass readings and photos. For a house, flat or shop, online is usually enough. For a plot, a farm or a factory under construction, a site visit adds real value. We consult online from Jodhpur.

Vastu Consultant: Meaning and What the Work Is
A Vastu consultant is a person who examines a building or a plot against the rules of Vastu Shastra, the traditional Indian system of planning by direction, and advises on what to place where. That is the whole meaning of the term. The consultant does not design the structure and does not certify its safety.
In practice the work has three parts. First, establish the true directions of the property. Second, mark where the entrance, kitchen, bedrooms, toilets, staircase, water storage and puja space fall across the eight directions and the centre. Third, list the mismatches in order of importance and suggest the least disruptive correction for each. A fuller description of the job, and of what you would send for an online reading, is in my guide to working with a Vastu consultant online. This article deals with the local question: what to do if you live in Bikaner, Bhilwara, Bhiwadi or Howrah.
Local Visit or Online: How to Decide
People search for a consultant in their own city because they assume the consultant must walk through the house. Sometimes that is right. Often it is not.
The analysis itself runs on four facts: the shape of the property, the position of each room, the location of the main door, and the directions. A measured plan and careful compass readings supply all four. What a plan cannot show is the land: how the plot slopes, where rainwater collects, what stands on the neighbouring plots, how the road meets the gate. Those are best seen in person.
So the choice depends on the property more than on the city. A finished home where the question is "which room for what" suits an online consultation. Raw land, or a building still at foundation stage, is the case for someone who can stand on it.
Which Route Suits Which Property
| Property | Online from a plan | Local site visit | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat in a society | Usually enough | Rarely needed | The structure is fixed; the advice concerns room use and placement |
| Independent house, already built | Usually enough | Helpful if the plot is irregular | Room positions show on the plan; plot shape may need measuring |
| Old haveli or ancestral house | Possible with a careful sketch | Often worth it | Plans seldom exist, and rooms were added over generations |
| Shop or showroom | Usually enough | Rarely needed | Few elements: entrance, counter, seating, stock |
| Vacant plot before purchase | Partial | Recommended | Slope, soil and surroundings decide the matter |
| Factory or warehouse | Good for layout planning | Recommended for large sites | Machinery weight, utilities and vehicle movement need a walk-through |
Vastu Consultant in Bikaner: What Is Particular to the City
Bikaner is a desert city, and its buildings reflect that. Three situations come up with properties here.
Old-city houses and havelis. Inside the walled city, houses stand wall to wall on narrow lanes, built in the local red sandstone around a central courtyard (chowk). The open courtyard at the centre is exactly what Vastu asks for: a clear Brahmasthan. The usual problems are the reverse of a modern flat. The centre is fine, but the plot is irregular, toilets were added later wherever a pipe could reach, and nobody has a drawing. For such a house, start with a hand sketch of each floor and a compass reading taken in the courtyard, away from iron grilles.
Water storage. In western Rajasthan, underground tanks for stored water are part of the house. Vastu places underground water in the north-east and overhead tanks towards the south-west or west. When a consultant looks at a Bikaner home, the position of the underground tank is among the first things checked, because it is heavy, permanent and expensive to move. If it lies in the south-west, the advice normally works around it and does not ask you to dig it up.
Heat and wind. Classical Vastu favours more openings to the north and east and heavier, more closed walls to the south and west. In a city with harsh afternoon sun and hot westerly winds, this matches good climate sense. New houses in the colonies outside the old city can follow it easily if the consultant is involved before the plan is frozen.
Vastu Consultant in Bhilwara: Homes, Shops and Textile Units
Bhilwara is known for its textile industry, and many families there run a trading office, a shop or a weaving unit alongside the home. Enquiries from the city often concern the business premises as much as the house.
For a unit with looms or processing machines, the questions are where the heavy machinery stands, where raw material and finished stock are kept, where the boiler or electrical panel sits, and where the owner's cabin is. The traditional scheme puts heavy loads towards the south and west, fire and electrical equipment in the south-east, and the owner in the south-west facing north or east. For a cloth shop, the points are simpler: the entrance, the direction the owner faces, and the cash counter. I have written more on commercial layouts in Vastu tips for business premises.
Where home and workplace share a building, each is analysed separately. A common mistake is to treat a ground-floor godown and a first-floor residence as one unit.
Vastu Consultant in Bhiwadi: Society Flats and Factories
Bhiwadi is an industrial town close to Gurugram, with two very different kinds of property: apartments in group-housing societies, and factory sheds in the industrial areas.
Flat buyers in Bhiwadi usually ask before purchase. The builder offers several units on a floor with mirrored layouts, and the facing differs for each. A comparison of two or three shortlisted units from the brochure plan is quick, and it is far cheaper than discovering after possession that the kitchen sits in the north-east. Check the direction yourself at the site. Brochure north arrows are sometimes approximate.
For factories, the best time to consult is before machinery is installed. Once a press or a furnace is bolted to its foundation, the advice is limited to what can still move: the office, the stores, the gate in use, the dispatch area. A large plant deserves a walk-through by someone on site, with layout planning done on the drawing beforehand.
Vastu Consultant in Howrah: Old Houses and Tight Plots
Howrah lies on the west bank of the Hooghly, opposite Kolkata. It is densely built, with old family houses on narrow lanes, small workshops, and a growing number of apartment blocks.
The typical Howrah house is long and narrow, shares walls on both sides, and gets its light from one end. That leaves few choices for the entrance, so the analysis concentrates on the inside: where the cooking is done, where the family sleeps, where the thakur ghar is, and where water is stored. The staircase and the toilet are the usual trouble spots in such plans, since they were fitted into whatever space was left.
Many buildings here hold a workshop or shop on the ground floor with the family above. As in Bhilwara, the two are read separately. For properties close to the river, the Hooghly lies to the east, and water towards the east or north is counted as favourable in Vastu. That is a point in the location's favour, though it does not offset a poorly arranged interior.
Vastu Consultant for a Flat
A flat limits what can change. You cannot move the main door, the toilets, the kitchen shaft or the columns. A consultant who hands a flat owner a list of structural changes has not understood the brief.
What can change in a flat is plenty: which bedroom the elders, the couple and the children use; which way the beds and the study table face; where the stove stands on the kitchen counter; where the puja shelf goes; where heavy cupboards and the water purifier sit; the colours; and what is stored in the north-east. These are the things a flat consultation should cover. My article on how to improve the Vastu of a house lists such non-structural changes in detail.
If you are still choosing between flats, consult before you pay the booking amount. The advice is most useful when it can still change your decision.
Vastu Consultant Online Chat: What It Can Answer
Chat is good for small, specific questions. "My bedroom is in the north-west; which way should the bed face?" can be answered in a few lines once the direction is confirmed. Chat is also the right place to ask what a consultation involves and what to send.
Chat cannot replace the full analysis. A complete reading needs the whole plan in view, since the correction for one room depends on what the others are doing. Be wary of anyone who diagnoses an entire house from one photo in a chat window and then recommends a product. If you want to try a quick self-check first, my guide to a Vastu check online explains what free tools can and cannot tell you.
How to Check a Local Consultant
If you decide on a local practitioner in any of these cities, a few questions will tell you a lot.
- How do they take directions? They should use a compass at several points and note the degrees, not glance at the sun and announce "east-facing".
- Do they ask for a plan or draw one? Advice given while walking around, with nothing on paper, is hard to verify later.
- Do they rank the problems? Every house has mismatches. You need to know which two or three matter.
- What do they suggest first? Changing the use of a room or the position of furniture should come before objects for sale, and far before breaking walls.
- Is the fee stated in advance, along with what you receive for it?
- Do they use fear? Predictions of illness or loss unless you act immediately are a sales method. Leave.
How to Become a Vastu Consultant
Some readers ask this from the other side: how does one become a Vastu consultant? There is no statutory licence for Vastu practice in India, and no government body that registers consultants. Anyone may use the title, which is why clients need to be careful and why serious students need to hold themselves to a standard.
A sound path has four parts:
- Study the sources. Texts such as Mayamata, Manasara, Samarangana Sutradhara and the Vastu chapters of the Brihat Samhita form the classical base. Read them in translation with a teacher if possible.
- Learn to read drawings. You must be able to read an architect's plan to scale, find the centre of an irregular plot, and divide it into zones accurately.
- Master direction-finding. Compass work, magnetic interference, and the difference between magnetic and true north are daily tools.
- Work under someone. Go through many real properties with an experienced practitioner before advising on your own. Books do not teach you how to rank defects or how to speak to a worried family.
A background in architecture, civil engineering or interior design helps a great deal, as clients' questions often touch construction.
Vastu Consultant Course Online: What to Look For
Online Vastu courses range from weekend introductions by private institutes to longer certificate and diploma programmes. Some Sanskrit and open universities also offer programmes in Vastu Shastra; check their current prospectus for details. Before paying for any course, look at these points:
- Does the syllabus name the texts it draws on, or only promise "secrets"?
- Does it include practical work on real floor plans, with feedback on your analysis?
- Who teaches it, and can you see their own work?
- Does it teach where Vastu ends and where an architect or engineer must be called?
- Is the certificate described honestly? A private certificate shows you completed a course. It is not a government licence.
Be cautious about courses that promise an income figure. Earnings in this field depend on reputation built over years.
Where the Consultant Stops and the Engineer Starts
A Vastu consultant advises on placement and direction. Whether a wall can be removed, whether a slab can take an overhead tank, and whether a new opening weakens a beam are questions for a structural engineer. If a Vastu suggestion involves any structural change, get an engineer's approval before work begins, and in a flat, the society's permission as well. A responsible consultant will tell you this unprompted.
How We Work With Clients in These Cities
We are based in Jodhpur and our Vastu consultancy is conducted online. You book for one property and share the floor plan or a sketch with north marked, along with photos. I go through the directions and each room with you on a call, and you receive a report with diagrams on WhatsApp, with corrections that avoid demolition wherever possible.
If your question is mainly about land, such as a plot on the edge of Bikaner or a large industrial site in Bhiwadi, tell me at the start. I will say honestly how much can be judged from photos and a plan, and where a person on site would serve you better. The current fee is on the Vastu consultation page; I do not quote it in articles, as it changes.
What Vastu Cannot Promise
Vastu arranges a space according to a traditional framework. Many families feel more settled in a home arranged this way. It does not guarantee profit, health, a marriage or the sale of a property, and no consultant in any city can promise those. A persistent health problem needs a doctor, a failing business needs an accountant's eye, and a cracked wall needs an engineer. Vastu sits beside these and does not replace them. For the principles themselves, see my complete guide to Vastu Shastra.
