Vishnu Kodi (विष्णु कोड़ी) — also called Vishnu Ji ka Kodi (विष्णु जी का कोड़ी) in devotional usage — is the sacred flag staff of Lord Vishnu (Vishnu Ji), the tall, tapering staff used to display the Bhagwa Dhwaj (the saffron flag of Vishnu) at the top of temples, at the entrance of Vaishnava homes, and at the site of Vaishnava festivals and processions. The Bhagwa Dhwaj — saffron in colour — is the supreme flag of Sanatana Dharma, the symbol of sacrifice, courage, and the eternal victory of dharma over adharma. Hoisting the Vishnu Kodi with the saffron flag at the entrance of the home or temple is believed to invoke the direct protection of Lord Vishnu (Vishnu Ji), mark the home as a Vaishnava dwelling, and create a protective energy field around the space. The flag staff itself is typically made of wood or metal, and the saffron cloth flag is often emblazoned with the symbols of Vishnu — the Shankha (conch), Chakra (disc), Gada (mace), and Padma (lotus).
